New Study: No Clear Link Between Passive Smoking and Lung Cancer

Thanks to Vince Harden for posting this on Facebook via NYC Clash-

This is certainly a big deal:

A large prospective cohort study of more than 76,000 women confirmed a strong association between cigarette smoking and lung cancer but found no link between the disease and secondhand smoke.
Investigators from Stanford and other research centers looked at data from the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study (WHI-OS). Among 93,676 women aged 50–79 years at enrollment, the study had complete smoking and covariate data (including passive smoking exposure in childhood, adult home, and work) for 76,304 participants. Of those, 901 developed lung cancer over 10.5 mean years of follow-up.

A few of us have pooled together the $35 that it costs to purchase the study in its entirety. I look forward to reading it.

I wonder how many news organizations are going to pick up this rather huge story..........I hear crickets.

No Clear Link Between Passive Smoking and Lung Cancer

  1. The study's not out yet (AFAIK). If you're raising $35 to get the article, let me know and I'll send it to you for free.

    1. Thanks Christopher! I've passed this on to Audrey. Send it when you can:-)

  2. Juliette.
Have you made a comment on Frank Davis's site, or is it someone impersonating you? The link is here:

    1. Junican-

Yes, that was me that left the comment. I felt compelled to speak out against what is in my view an extremist position.

  3. Ah.
I'm glad that I alerted you because I have no doubt that you saw that someone was impersonating Carl Phillips.

It is difficult not to be extreme. The Zealots are vicious. In the UK, they have been slipping amendments to laws through the House of Commons hidden among other matters. For example, an amendment to a previous Health Act was slipped through hidden in a Finance Act. The amendment was a clause which stated that 'tobacco products may only be made in a registered factory' (words to that effect). Can you see what that means? It means that we may only smoke the products of tobacco companies. Also, a good while ago, they slipped in an amendment which made home-grown stuff liable for duty, which is not the same with alcohol. The Zealots here are gradually forcing smokers into a legal corner where they are contained and where they can be picked off at will. I believe that the war on ecigs is part of that corralling - give smokers no leeway at all, not even to stop smoking tobacco at all, except via ways which are remunerative to the Zealots.
I can understand Frank's feelings, in view of the number of people whose deaths have indirectly been caused by the lies of tobacco control and the legislation which it has promoted.

I would not myself say that the Zealots should be put up against a wall and shot! At least, not seriously. I fear, however, that when the full extent of the bribery and corruption in the WHO, the EU, the USA, and other places becomes known, the Zealots who promoted the bans and received the payments will sneak off and get away with it.

    1. Junican,

Frank went way over the line with his commentary this time. Period.

  4. Hello does anyone here has the full report already ?
