Scenes from the Nanny State: Marlhaven Lights

  1. Love it! That's hilarious! At the same time, scary, like those futuristic science fiction stories that are not far from the truth. I feel sorry for that guy in the shop. Probably in order to get a low paid job as a shop assistant (the economy being what it is) he had to swear a solemn oath to his employer that he's "Passionate" about the cause and Committed to "Enlightening" the public about the glorious Utopia that awaits in a Smokefree Universe! Oh yes, no doubt there are "targets" to be met to coerce x number of smokers per week to give up the evil weed!

  2. It's funny and sad at the same time. I dunno...I feel sorry for younger folks who smoke now...I know..the whole idea is for them not to start in the first place, I get that...BUT, the problem is that in the real world young people are still taking up smoking (as they probably always will), with the only real difference being that many young people are now smoking STRONGER (ie., higher tar) cigarettes, mostly due to being told that there is no such thing as a dose response relationship when it comes to tobacco. I have a striking suspicion that this tactic of tobacco control is going to create MORE, not less, of a health problem for smokers in the future, and that makes me sad:(
