Up in smoke?

Thanks to Andrew Phillips for posting this on Facebook via NYC Clash-

Organizers of Capital Pride are worried the City of Ottawa’s proposed expanded smoking ban will hurt attendance at this summer's Pride festival.

Gee, ya think? The madness continues... I thank God every day that I live in Louisiana now.

Up in smoke?

  2. Bit of a conundrum for them, what?

On the one hand, they want to be oh so achingly hip and with it and right-on PC on the gay front, and on the other hand they want to really persecute those pesky smokers.

What to do? A dilemma indeed! Doubtless they will find a compromise, seeing as it's the gay community. I mean, they may be smokers, but they are gay smokers, so that somewhat mitigates the full-on nastiness normally reserved for smokers.

I don't agree with that assessment at all Nisakiman. Gay smokers are persecuted just like the rest of us and I am sure that many of them will make their feelings (as they should) known.

Be that as it may, I still think the PC crowd who seem to populate local authorities will tie themselves in knots trying to find a way to accommodate the smokers at this event to a greater extent than they would for any other group.

And I hope, for the sake of the smokers attending, that I'm right. Banning smoking at outdoor venues is pure spite, and the people who mandate these regulations are just petty tyrants. But very PC tyrants, nonetheless. I will be interested to see if there are any concessions made in this instance. :¬)

Maybe because they (the "authorities") know that there would be a protest...and rightfully so. Living in West Hollywood (one of the largest gay communities in WEHO) taught me some lessons, as I witnessed a large emphasis on civic involvement withing the gay community there. People actually protested the lasted ban outside of the city hall in WEHO, with the current mayor sitting in office as a result.

The rest of us should get up off of our butts and protest unfair laws as well.

    I'm with you Nisakiman:-)
