Here Cometh the Ghost of Carrie Nation

Beware! The Neo-bishops of Do-gooderism are after your pint and your glass of wine....AGAIN.

The High Costs of Drinking Too Much - Health Blog - WSJ

Excessive alcohol consumption is defined as averaging more than a drink per day, binge drinking — four or more drinks for women and five or more for men on a single occasion — or any alcohol consumption at all by pregnant women or underage youth.

Hmmmm...really? Just one drink per day is excessive drinking? Has Carry Nation arisen from the grave to secretly fund this "study"? This report has temperance written all over it.

One thing has become increasingly clear to me with regards to all temperance movements: They resemble that of the resentful curmudgeon that cannot stand to see other people having fun, and living longer to boot!

Oh, but "sinners" can have fun and live longer you say? That certainly seems to be the case:

Want to live longer? Toss back a few cocktails

According to the data, drinking a moderate amount of alcohol — up to four drinks per day in men and two drinks per day in women — reduces the risk of death from any cause by roughly 18 percent, the team reports in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Now take that you Carrie Nations of the world and stuff it!

Blimey! That means I've been a hopeless alcoholic for more than forty years! And - egad! - I've been smoking for even longer than that! At one stage in the '70s I was getting through 100 Camel Plain (non-filter) a day!

Odd thing is though... I'm as fit as a fiddle, never get sick, do very physical work and enjoy my life to the full.

How can that be? I mean... I should be dead... or in a hospice... or something else awful...

Surely they can't be wrong??? After all, they're EXPERTS!

  2. Gee...Think that the prohibitionists might be attempting to kill off what is left of the pub/bar/club/restaurant industry?
