Calif. beach town tightens smoking restrictions |

Thanks to Audrey Silk for posting this on Facebook-

Restaurants are also prohibited from distributing match books because they promote cigarette smoking.

...Proof that smoking bans were never about protecting non-smokers from second hand smoke. California is starting to feel like a giant prison cell.

  1. Prohibited from distributing matchbooks!?! Are you freaking serious? Oh, it gets better, the fine for non compliance is only $500! How is this even legal anymore? This is so intrusive and ludicrous.

Why not just ban tobacco? Oh, that's right, it's a huge cash cow for state and local governments. As long as they can write $500 tickets and slap 100% taxes on cigarettes, tobacco will remain "legal".

Do local governments like this even serve the people anymore? It seems like their main function is to look for ways to pump more money out of the public in order to stay afloat.
