Blue Shield of California defies state insurance commissioner over rate hikes | Money & Company | Los Angeles Times

My rates have just gone up....That makes for a 300% increase in only 3 years? WTF is going on? I can't afford it anymore. I wish I would have just saved the money in an account instead. Now what do I get in return for all of my investments?

I'm no fan of the government sticking their nose into my business (ie., the Nanny State), but I'm also no fan of these extortionist insurance companies.

Something has GOT to change. How the hell do they justify a 300% rate increase?

..And now for a bit of truth:

When I asked my insurance representative the reason for all of these hikes, the response was: "It's due to the new health-care bill". When I pried a bit deeper, I found out that that "Obamacare" only accounted for about 5-10% of my latest premium increase, and when you account for all of the hikes (for the last 3 years) in aggregate, the percentage of premium hikes due to Obamacare aren't even quantifiable. It's quite obvious to me that she simply lied to me and I caught her in that lie. That's the truth, and the truth doesn't hide behind the Left or the Right, it's just there.

That said, we shouldn't be witnessing ANY increases to our insurance rates at this point, as the National Health-care overhaul bill was supposed to make health-care CHEAPER, not more expensive. That is not happening.

I'd like some of my money back please, and while I'm on the topic of money and investments, I'd also like to see some returns on all of my investments over the years into the Master Settlement. Wasn't that money supposed to pay for the health-care of sick smokers? Therefore, why don't I/we smokers ALREADY have health insurance? ...and what about all of those, er "sin", I mean, excise taxes? Where has all of THAT money gone and don't I/we deserve some returns on those as well?

Bah! I don't trust the insurance companies OR the government.

We need health-care reform; there's no doubt about that. I just can't see where it's going to come from.
