I am seeing red at the moment. I cannot believe what is going on in this country. Some people ask me from time to time: "What's with you and the cigarette issue?"
THIS is what's up with me and the "cigarette" issue:
Proposed ordinance in Denville targets smokers in outdoor public spaces
"Violators of a proposed smoking ban in parks and recreation areas would face a fine or community service and — in the case of a three-time offender – risk going to jail under a municipal ordinance introduced Tuesday night."
Risk going to JAIL(!)? Seriously? In our America? Are the people that are instituting such laws secret members of the Taliban and we just don't know it yet?
Never in my life have I ever felt so strongly about the need to "trim" the size of our government.
This is wider than the smoking bans that are put onto the statute books jred, this is about liberty and freedom.
ReplyDeleteIf one of the cradles of democracy can institute such a law then there is no hope for democracy and freedom.
The measure of a free state is how free its citizens are to live their lives as long as what they do harms no one else... well, we all know smoker persecution is based on manipulated data and junk scientific studies used by bigots who hate us and work towards our humiliation, exclusion and criminalisation.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Yin and Pat, this IS about liberty and freedom; and yes, they DO manipulate data so that they may have an excuse to rip apart the social fabric of "free" societies everywhere.
ReplyDeleteMy jaw just dropped so much reading that story. Why the hell would some in Denville would want to pass a park smoking ban, while a commenter mentioned Denville is within New York-N. New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-CT nonattainment area for failing to meet the national ambient air quality standard! Shouldn't that be a far more important priority to resolve, over someone whining over a brief wisp of outdoor cigarette smoke?
